In recent years machine learning has achieved prominent results in numerous areas such as
speech recognition, machine translation, and image recognition,
often rivalling or even surpassing human performance. As a consequence
machine learning has experienced a tremendous rise in popularity but
sometimes feels like magic. In my talk I will provide
an introduction to machine learning and show that there is no magic but
mainly mathematics behind this technology.
David Widmann works as PhD student at the IT department at Uppsala
University. His main research interest is uncertainty quantification in
deep learning, a modern area of machine learning. David is from Germany
and obtained a Master’s degree in Mathematics
from TU Munich.
